To update 4530 firmware, follow these steps:

1. Connect the 4530 to PC's COM1: serial port with a "straight
    through" serial cable.

2. On the 4530, enter the following menu command:

	Main Menu > Utilities > Sys-Tests > DnldFlash > [Enter]

and press [Enter] again to confirm the download. The 4530
    should reboot in programming mode.

3. Execute the enclosed file, UPD4530_yymmdd.EXE (where yymmdd is the
date code of the release version) by double-clicking on the icon
or filename, or by opening an MS-DOS or Command Prompt window and typing:

        UPD4530_yymmdd [Enter]

from the directory containing this file. This will download the
new software to the instrument. You should see a progress indication
    on the computer display.

4. When downloading and programming is complete (about 7 minutes), disconnect the
serial cable from the 4530, and turn instrument power off and back on to
    restart with the new firmware.

In case of difficulty:

If program starts, but reports a message such as "can not determine a valid
baud rate" it means there is a communication problem between the PC and the
instrument.

Check all cable connections and cable wiring (should be "straight through").

Make sure COM1 is available on your system (no internal modem or other devices,
installed, and not in use by another program or driver).

If COM1 is not available, COM2, 3 or 4 may be used by running the executable
file from the command line. Type the EXE filename, followed by a space and the
/2, /3, or /4 switch to select which port.

Running the program from the command line followed by the /? switch will show
    all available options.

Make sure instrument download screen is showing.

Check the serial settings to ensure 38400 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, parity
off, and handshake none. These are the default settings.

This is a Windows program, which will not run under MS-DOS, or in MS-DOS mode.
If you require a MS-DOS compatible downloader, please contact the factory.

This program has been tested under all current versions of Windows (95, 98, NT, ME,
2000, and XP). Some serial port problems have been noted in NT. If this happens,
try the downloader from a computer with a different operating system.
